APC School Revolt 2023 (Previous Info)

February 3, 2025 Reading time: 4 minutes

UPDATE: PARTICIPATION CALL EXTENDED  - 12 FEBRUARY 2023

Last year, we had a wonderful month of amazing events during the first ever School Revolt. We were genuinely really pleased with all the participation and for getting to know so many enriching educational projects.

However, we want to try something a little different this time. Instead of focusing on events (though there will be some of them!), we wanted to provide a space where people can create a range of stories told in a variety of ways for people of all ages.

In order to build the worlds that we want to see, we need to have time to explore the many different ways that it could be configured. Storytelling is one of the best ways to learn how things work while also giving us space to imagine what new realities we might create.

So for School Revolt 2023, the theme is Storytelling, Abolition, and Prefiguration. Everything this year will take place between February and April.

We invite everyone to share your stories of resistance, mutual care, radical love, community building, or any other topic you are burning to share. These stories can take many forms, including zines, books, poems, music, film, or any other medium you can think of. Together we will gather these stories and publish them for all to enjoy and learn from, with complete free access to anyone everywhere. You can take on this challenge on your own, or you can organise yourselves into collectives that share in the work. Any form of horizontal, non-hierarchical, and free form of self-organisation is highly encouraged.

There is no formal requirement to participate. Anyone is welcome regardless of academic degree, official title, expertise, geographic location, or language.

There is a zero tolerance policy for any forms of bigotry. Proposals and stories that veer too close to the possibility of being discriminatory in any form will first receive an email requesting clarification. Any projects that promote harm towards marginalised, oppressed and vulnerable communities will be rejected outright.

To apply, simply fill out the form below. Deadline for applications is 13 January 2023. People can sign up to create a story, provide a workshop to help others in their creation, or do both!

Participants are welcome to use whatever devices and any software that are needed to make their stories a reality. Should you require any kind of assistance or accommodations (including technical support or requests for workshop tutorials), you can indicate your needs in the registration form and we will do our best to make it happen.

If you have any questions or comments, feel free to send us an email at anarchapednet@riseup.net or contact us through any of our social media.

We are looking forward to seeing what ideas you come up with!

Love and Solidarity,

APC

School Revolt 2022 (Previous Info)

January 27, 2025 Reading time: 4 minutes

UPDATE, 15 DEC: DEADLINE HAS PASSED. But don't let that deter you from engaging with us! Check back here for updated information related to the School Revolt, but also send us an email if you have any other ideas for how you want to participate in the APN! We'd love to hear from you.

The deadline for School Revolt 2022 is now closed, and we are so happy for all 22 of the proposals we received! Thanks so much to all of you who will be sharing your experiences, activities and reflections with the rest of us. We can’t wait for it to happen!

You can all look forward to presentations in a variety of formats where you can participate and learn more about different practices in anarchist pedagogies. Maybe it might inspire you to join our next School Revolt or just let us know about something you’re working on as it happens! (Seriously, we’d love to hear from you whenever.)

We will send emails individually to all who sent us proposals with a bit of information. If you haven’t received an email yet, please look out for it in the next couple of weeks.

Again, thank you to everyone for wanting to join us in our first collective festival, and we hope all of us have a revolutionary time together!

We are inviting you to send us proposals for participation in the first ever APN School Revolt!

APN School Revolt 2022 is a two-week festival of talks, workshops, and special events that deal with Anarchism, Education, and Intersectionality. It will take place online between the end of February 2022 and the beginning of March 2022. Final dates will be shared after proposals have been collected.

All presenters, facilitators, educators, learners and speakers are welcome, regardless of academic degree, official title, expertise, geographic location, or language. Presenters are encouraged to suggest original and thought-provoking proposals in a variety of formats, as long as they center the three main themes. In particular, we would prefer to platform individuals and collectives who have practical experiences or who combine practical experience with the theoretical. This also extends to informal learning spaces and alternative techniques that often go overlooked.

Events can take the shape of panel presentations, roundtables, performances, webinars, workshops, written pieces, artwork, zines, posters, podcast episodes, video-art and sound, music, or any other format. Exciting and unconventional formats are encouraged, and no preference will be given to one over another. Additionally, presenters are also welcome to create a hybrid event (if they have the opportunity or ability to do so).

However, there is a zero tolerance policy for any forms of bigotry. Proposals that veer too close to the possibility of being discriminatory in any form will first receive an email requesting clarification. Any projects that promote harm towards marginalised and vulnerable communities will be rejected outright.

To apply, simply fill out this form. Deadline for applications is December 10. All applicants will receive an email by December 31. If an applicant is unable to participate during the two weeks (for any reason), we welcome them to work with us to find another time that is better for them.

While we can support presenters with technical needs, presenters are welcome to use whatever devices and any software that are needed to make their events a reality. Should anyone require any kind of assistance or accommodations (including technical support), please indicate your needs in the registration form.

We are looking forward to your proposals!

Love and Solidarity,

APN

School Revolt 2022

January 27, 2025 Reading time: 8 minutes

Dear comrades,

The coordinating committee for the APN would like to thank you for you participation in the first ever School Revolt festival. For the past few weeks, we’ve heard about your great work, your important questions, and your inspiring projects. We deeply appreciate all of the hard work that has gone into everything that has been shared with us and everyone else. We appreciate the presenters and the projects that they brought forward, prompting a lot of amazing conversations around a range of ideas. We also greatly appreciate everyone who has participated across the board. Thank you very much for helping us to make School Revolt 2022 such a success!

Now that the festival has come to an end, the coordinating committee for the APN will be taking some time to do some self-reflection and learning. While we are absolutely delighted with how it came about and everything that has happened, we know that there are things that we could’ve done better and want to learn from those. We want to take those matters seriously so that we can make the next festival even better! We’d love for you to send any kind of feedback so that we can help make the spaces that we build and inhabit more inclusive, more supportive, and closer to our shared goals.

While School Revolt may be over for now, the learning can still continue! If your session was recorded, you can find it on our YouTube channel, along with other recordings from other live sessions and prerecorded sessions. Feel free to browse through those any time you want. You can find our School Revolt playlist on our YouTube channel.

Throughout the year, we host a range of events, workshops, and webinars that are widely available. We also have a podcast project that we work on, and we’re always looking to work with and/or support others in building relationships and coming together to develop other spaces of learning. If you have an idea for something you’d like to share, if you would like to collaborate with us, or if there is anything you’d like to work on together, please feel free to reach out to us at any time. We’re always happy to help support others in their learning processes in any way that helps.

Of course, also feel free to reach out and tell us about projects you’re working on and want to share! We love hearing what other people are doing and hope that, with every connection we make, we can work together to build the many different pathways to the worlds that support us in collective liberation.

Finally, if you’d like to participate more directly with the APN, our coordinating group is happy to receive new members. If you want to help with planning and putting together any of the events that we host or want to help keep everything going behind the scenes, please reach out to us as well.

We hope to see you all soon and again, either at APN events or in any space where anarchist perspectives on education are celebrated.

Love and solidarity,
The APN
